On Friday, September 18, 2026, I took a day off work and we went as a family to Galaxy Robot Park (갤럭시 로봇파크) in Godeok-dong, Gangdong-gu, on the east side of Seoul. Our son is 10 and our daughter is 9, and both of them loved it: robots appear throughout the park, some of them can be touched or controlled, and the evening show kept both kids engaged. The outdoor robot experiences were free, and the only thing we paid for was the show.

Name: 갤럭시 로봇파크 (Galaxy Robot Park), Godeok-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul

Map: Google Maps · Naver Map

Visited: Friday, September 18, 2026, from about 5:30 p.m. into the evening, with our son (10) and daughter (9)

What we paid: Robot show only, two adult-and-child ticket sets at 29,700 won each, for a total of 59,400 won. On our visit, there was no separate entry fee; the outdoor robot experiences and the Hugging Robot in the lobby were free

Operator: Galaxy Corporation, G-Dragon’s management company

Show: Booked in advance for 7 p.m.; about 1 hour; no photos or video allowed

Age fit: Both our kids (10 and 9) loved the robots, the free experiences and the show

Parking: Large car park; we had no trouble

Food: Cafe, bistro and lounge on site; we did not eat there

My rating: 4.2 / 5

What Galaxy Robot Park is

Galaxy Robot Park is operated by Galaxy Corporation, the company that represents G-Dragon of BIGBANG (Yonhap News report). The park officially opened on August 21, 2026. It is a robot-themed park on a hillside, with a lawn, a garden, a greenhouse hall and several glass buildings. The names on the buildings were Robot Arena, Aurora Cafe, Aurora Bistro and Aurora Lounge. It is hard to miss from the car park: a giant astronaut figure leans over the top of the Robot Arena building, a purple inflatable robot dog lies on the roof of Aurora Bistro, and a tall astronaut statue holding a flag stands on the lawn.

The lawn, with the astronaut statue and the park buildings behind it

We arrived around 5:30 p.m., about an hour and a half before our 7 p.m. show, and used the time before it to try the free experiences outside and walk around the garden.

Free experiences outside: robot dogs you can drive

The part our kids talked about most was driving a robot dog. On the lawn, staff in yellow vests handed each child a controller to walk a four-legged robot around a course marked with small cones. Both of our kids had a turn. There was no charge for this.

Our daughter driving a robot dog on the lawn

Our son taking his turn with the controller

Staff in yellow vests run the robot dog course

We also saw robot dogs walking around on the paths and inside the Robot Arena lobby, close enough for the kids to stand right next to them.

A robot dog moving around inside the Robot Arena lobby

Boxing robots

Near the lawn there was a boxing robot demonstration, which was something to watch rather than something to try. Two humanoid robots in boxing gloves fought on a padded mat inside a roped-off area, with staff standing by. The robots punched, kicked and ended up on the floor.

A boxing robot moving around the mat during the demonstration

Boxing robots on the mat after going down

The greenhouse hall and the garden

The greenhouse is a large glass hall with palm trees and other plants along the walls, a wide open floor and a big round installation made of greenery with a glowing red center. When we were there, the floor was mostly empty and our daughter ran across it.

The greenhouse hall

The glowing installation in the greenhouse hall

Outside, a garden path covered in wood chips runs past wooden frames, raised vegetable and herb beds, small huts and a colorful slide sculpture. On the lawn, a ring of glowing white stones was set out, and our daughter went around stepping over and touching them.

The garden, with Godeok-Topyeong Bridge behind it

The view over the Han River

The view was one of the things I liked most. From the top of the garden and the hill next to the car park, you look out over the Han River and Godeok-Topyeong Bridge (고덕토평대교), a cable-stayed bridge that opened on January 1, 2025, with the mountains behind it. We were there as the sun went down, and the sky over the river was clear with scattered clouds.

The view from the park over the Han River to Godeok-Topyeong Bridge

Robot Arena: the lobby before the show

The show is in the Robot Arena building. Right at the entrance to the show, in the lobby, there are humanoid robots dressed in bright knitwear and jeans, and a sign for a Hugging Robot experience. This was free on our visit, like the outdoor experiences. Our son shook hands with one of them, and there is a photo wall with a dancing robot and the Robot Arena logo. We did this while waiting for the doors to open.

There is also a row of lockers next to a bench in the lobby, useful if you have bags you do not want to carry around.

Lockers in the Robot Arena building

The robot show: tickets, rules and what we saw

The show was the only thing we paid for. We booked the 7 p.m. show in advance and bought two adult-and-child ticket sets at 29,700 won each, for a total of 59,400 won for the four of us. There was no separate entry fee for the park, and the outdoor robot experiences were free.

A sign at the entrance lists the venue rules, in Korean and English:

No recording, photos or video of the show; people who ignore this are asked to leave.

Your ticket is valid for one viewing of the session you booked.

Set phones to silent or vibrate during the show.

No food or drink inside.

No pets, for safety reasons.

No kick scooters, bicycles, wheeled shoes, inline skates or similar wheeled recreational equipment.

The venue rules shown at the entrance

Because of the photo rule, I do not have any pictures of the show itself. It ran for about an hour. The robots danced to K-pop and performed taekwondo, and the stage stayed busy throughout. The kids loved it.

The rooftop

The elevator in the Robot Arena building goes up to the Robot Arena Rooftop on the 3rd floor. It is a large deck of artificial grass with rows of plastic tables and chairs under folded parasols, surrounded by a railing. From there you can see the city and the mountains on one side and the trees of the hill on the other.

Walking out onto the Robot Arena Rooftop

The rooftop seating area

Parking, food and practical notes

We drove and had no trouble finding space in the large car park during our visit. We did not eat at the park, so I cannot comment on the food or prices at Aurora Cafe, Aurora Bistro or Aurora Lounge.

Book the show in advance and arrive early enough to try the free outdoor experiences first. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. show, and that was enough time for the outdoor robots, the garden and the lobby.

No photos or videos are allowed during the show, so take your robot photos in the lobby and outside.

Robot dog driving takes place outside on the lawn.

Go up to the rooftop and the top of the garden for the view over the Han River, ideally around sunset.

More family days out in east Seoul and Hanam

Would we go back?

Galaxy Robot Park was a fun evening for a family with kids aged 10 and 9. The free experiences outside kept them busy before the show, the hour-long show held their attention, and the view over the Han River was a bonus. I would go again, but not immediately; the robots and the show would feel fresher after a break. My rating is 4.2 out of 5.

On September 19, 2026, we took both kids, our son (10) and our daughter (9), to Olympic Tennis Court (올림픽테니스경기장) in Olympic Park, Seoul, to watch a Davis Cup tie between Korea and India. It was the second of the tie’s two days, and we saw two matches: Korea lost the doubles and won the singles. We would go again, but the sun was brutal until the stands fell into shade in the afternoon, and getting the car out of the parking lot took about 30 minutes.

Shade: Most seats in full sun around midday; shade started coming over the stands from about 2 p.m.

Getting there: Olympic Park Station (Lines 5 and 9) is close by. We drove and parked in the South Gate lot; leaving took about 30 minutes

Korea vs India at Olympic Tennis Court

The banner on the stadium wall named the event: Davis Cup 2026 Qualifiers 2nd Round, Korea vs India, September 18 and 19, 2026, at Olympic Tennis Court in Seoul. Davis Cup is a team competition between countries, so a tie is played over several matches, and the crowd cheers for a national team rather than for one player. We went as a family to watch the tennis.

Player banners in the plaza outside the stadium

The ticket booth outside the stadium

We booked four tickets on September 3 through 29CM, a Korean shopping app that sold tickets for this tie. Our tickets were General A seats (일반석 A) at 40,000 won each, 160,000 won for the four of us, in Section 46 on the 2nd level, row 7. The ticket listed the venue as the Center Court of the Olympic Park tennis stadium and the start time as 12:00 p.m. Tickets came as mobile tickets in the app. The booking page also showed the cancellation rules: free up to 10 days before the match, then a fee of 10% (9 to 7 days before), 20% (6 to 3 days), 30% (2 to 1 days) and 100% on the day.

Around the stadium before the match

The entrance we used was gate 2-2, under a large Korea vs India banner that also listed the event sponsors, 29CM among them. Metal barriers lined the steps up to the doors, and a board at the bottom showed a seating map of the stadium. In the plaza, tall flags carried photos of players from both teams. The names I could read in my photos were Soonwoo Kwon for Korea, and Sumit Nagal, N Sriram Balaji and Manas Dhamne for India. Wilson had a booth in the plaza with racket models listed on the wall, next to a row of white tents.

The ticket booth was a yellow shipping container with a green sign reading 매표소 | Ticket and a separate Will Call window. Its signage was for the Korea Open WTA 250, another tournament held at the same venue, so the price sheets taped to its windows were not for this tie. A separate sign pointed people holding paper invitation tickets (지류 초청 티켓) to their own desk.

There was a long line to get in. At the entrance, staff checked bags to make sure no one brought in drinks in glass containers.

The stands, with the Korea vs India board along the court

Two matches: a doubles loss and a singles win

My first photo from inside the stadium was taken just after noon, during the doubles. Korea lost that match. We stayed for the singles that followed, where Soonwoo Kwon beat Sumit Nagal 6-1, 6-2 to give Korea a 3-1 win in the tie and a place in the Final 8.

Inside, the court sits in a bowl of blue seats: darker blue on the lower level and lighter blue on the upper level, with numbered gates between the two. Our seats in Section 46 were on the 2nd level, and from there we could see the whole court. The boards around the court read KOREA, REP. VS INDIA, and SEOUL was painted on the green area behind each baseline. Ball kids in blue KOREA shirts waited at the side of the court, and the flags of Korea and India flew on poles above the top row.

The sun, and where the shade comes in

The sun was the hardest part of the day. It was very hot in the uncovered seats around midday. Most of the seats are open to the sky, and you can see how many people in the stands were holding umbrellas. From about 2 p.m., shade started to come over the stands, which made it bearable again. I did not keep track of which sections got shade first.

The heat was the reason we left in the middle. Around 1 p.m. it was too hot to keep sitting in the sun, so we left the stadium, had lunch, and came back in. Re-entry was allowed: staff stamped our wrists on the way out, and on the way back in they checked the stamp and let us through. Keep the stamp visible and try not to rub it off if you plan to leave for lunch.

Korea qualifies for the Davis Cup Final 8

When the singles finished, the Korean team piled on top of each other on the court. A Korean player gave an on-court interview, and afterwards the team lined up with Korean flags and a banner in front of the crowd.

Our son and daughter went down to the railing at the front of our section to watch this part, and we all stayed until the interview was over before heading out.

The banner the team held read “QUALIFIED – See you in the Final 8.” Most of the crowd stayed to clap and take photos while this was going on.

Food stands and toilets

Outside the stadium there was a food area with stands marked SNACKS, K-FOOD and BEER, a coffee cart and tables under white umbrellas. We got churros with chocolate sauce and a beer. There were several toilets, but not enough for the crowd that day.

The food stands next to the tennis stadium had menu boards over the counters listing food and drinks, with each item written in Korean and in smaller English text underneath. The churros came in a paper cup with chocolate sauce poured over the top and a small Korea Open flag stuck in them.

Our day by the clock

The times below come from our mobile ticket and the timestamps on my phone photos, rather than an official schedule.

12:00 p.m. — Start time printed on our mobile ticket

12:04 p.m. — My first photo inside the stadium, with the doubles already in play

Around 1:00 p.m. — Too hot to stay in our seats, so we went out, had lunch and then went back in; my photos of the ticket booth and the outside wall are from this break

About 2:00 p.m. — Shade starting to come over the stands

3:36 p.m. — The Korean team piled up on the court after the final point of the singles

3:38 to 3:44 p.m. — The on-court interview, then the team with flags and the “Qualified” banner

Around 3:50 p.m. — Back out in the plaza in front of the stadium

Olympic Park plaza after the match

When we came out, the plaza outside the tennis stadium had more going on than the tennis. There was a ticket exchange booth for the KB Joy Olpark Festival 2026, a food-truck area set up for the festival, and a booth for returning reusable cups and containers. The KSPO DOME next door had a banner for an NCT 127 concert on the same day. With several events in the park at once, the plaza was crowded when the tennis crowd came out.

Getting there: take the subway if you can

Olympic Park Station, served by subway Lines 5 and 9, is close to the tennis court, so getting there by subway is convenient. We drove and parked in the South Gate parking lot (남문주차장), because we were told the East Gate lot was for VIPs only. Driving was the one thing I would change. When everyone left at the end, the parking lot was packed, and it took us about 30 minutes just to get the car out. If you are going to a big event here, I recommend public transport.

On our way out after the interview, we sat for a moment on the 1st level, where the view was far better than from our 2nd-level seats. We would go to another match at Olympic Tennis Court, but next time we will come by subway and book seats closer to the court.

Soesokkak (쇠소깍) is a short, deep gorge in Seogwipo where the Hyodoncheon stream runs into the sea between walls of dark basalt. We rowed it in small wooden boats on a Thursday afternoon in July 2026, my wife and I each sharing a boat with one of our kids. If you are weighing Soesokkak with kids, here is how the boat ride works, what it cost, and what happened when the nervous one in our family turned out to be me.

What Soesokkak is

The name comes from Jeju dialect: soe for the stream, so for a deep pool and kkak for the end, so roughly “the end of the deep pool”. Fresh water from the stream pools between the cliffs before it meets the sea, and the water inside the gorge is a still, dark green. It is also where Jeju Olle Trail routes 5 and 6 join.

You can walk the edge of the gorge for free, but the reason most families come is to get onto the water. There are two kinds of boat on offer. The teu (테우) is a flat traditional raft for a group. The other is a small wooden rowboat for two people, which you row yourself. There are also transparent kayak rentals in the area. We picked the wooden rowboats.

How the wooden boat ride works

Each boat takes two, so a family of four needs two boats. We split up the obvious way: one adult and one child per boat, with the adult doing most of the rowing. Life jackets are handed out before you board and everyone wears one, adults included. Two rules to know before you go: minors cannot take a boat by themselves, and children under 48 months are not allowed on at all.

There was no wait on a weekday afternoon. The ride itself is short. Visit Jeju puts it at 20 to 25 minutes, which matched how it felt: you row up the gorge between the cliffs, turn around, and come back to the dock. A two-person boat runs about 20,000 to 25,000 won.

One of our two boats: an adult on the paddle, a kid in front, both in life jackets.

Rowing out into the gorge.

The dad was the scared one

I was the one who got nervous. The boats are small and they move with every ripple, and whenever another boat or the raft passed, ours rocked. I held on harder than I needed to. Our kids did not seem bothered at all.

At one point my daughter noticed I was tense and told me it was okay, that I did not need to be scared. It is not often a parent gets reassured by their own child in the middle of a family trip, and it is the part of Soesokkak we still talk about. If you are a jumpy adult yourself, the water in the gorge is calm, the ride is short and everyone is in a life jacket.

Two boats on the water.
The black pebble beach at the sea end

Where the gorge opens to the sea there is a beach of dark, rounded pebbles, and people have stacked hundreds of small stone towers on it. From the boat dock it is a short walk along the path. The sea side is a completely different mood from the gorge: open, windy and loud with waves rolling over the stones. It is worth the few minutes even if you skip the boats.

The sea end of Soesokkak: a black pebble beach dotted with stone stacks.

Where it fit in our Seogwipo day

Soesokkak was the first stop of our last full afternoon on the south coast. We picked up takeaway kimbap from Dajeongine Gimbap around noon and ate it in the car, were on the water at Soesokkak a little after 1 p.m., and by 2 p.m. we were walking to Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, a short walk to a big waterfall in Seogwipo, and finished the afternoon indoors at Baksal 2 in Jungmun. Three stops in one afternoon sounds like a lot, but each one is short, and it worked with our kids.

Good to know before you go

The pebble beach where the gorge meets the sea is called Hahyo Soesokkak Beach (하효쇠소깍해변), and it is a black sand and pebble shore rather than a swimming beach. Visit Jeju lists a free cultural guide service at Soesokkak from 10:00 to 17:00, with walks of about 30 to 40 minutes, if you want someone to explain the gorge and its history. The site is open year-round, but it closes on Lunar New Year and Chuseok, the two biggest Korean holidays, so check the calendar if your trip falls around them.

You will also see transparent kayaks for rent around Soesokkak. We did not try them, so I cannot tell you how they compare with the wooden boats. For a family with younger children, the two-person wooden boat with an adult rowing felt like the simpler choice.

Korean words that help at Soesokkak

쇠소깍 (Soesokkak): the gorge itself

조각배 (jogakbae): the small wooden boat for two

테우 (teu): the traditional flat raft

구명조끼 (gumyeong jokki): life jacket

매표소 (maepyoso): ticket booth

주차장 (juchajang): parking lot

Questions parents ask

Can young children ride the boats at Soesokkak?

Children under 48 months cannot ride, and minors cannot take a boat alone. Our two elementary-school kids each rode with a parent.

How long is the boat ride?

About 20 to 25 minutes, according to Visit Jeju. That matched our ride.

Tips for Soesokkak with kids

Check ages first: under 48 months cannot board, and each child needs an adult in the boat.

Plan one adult per child: the boats seat two, so a family of four takes two boats.

Go on a weekday if you can: we walked straight on.

Bring sun protection: there is no shade on the boat once you leave the dock.

Leave time for the pebble beach: it is a short walk from the dock and costs nothing.

Use the first parking lot: there are three public lots, and the first one is free.

Would we go back?

Yes. The ride is short and cheap, the kids got to sit in a real boat in a place that looks like nowhere else on Jeju, and the pebble beach is a nice bonus. It suits families with kids old enough to sit still in a small boat. Next time I would try to relax a bit more, or at least try to look relaxed in front of my daughter.

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall (천지연폭포) is a 22-meter waterfall in the middle of Seogwipo, reached by a short, flat walk through a green gorge. We went on a Thursday afternoon in July 2026, straight after rowing Soesokkak, and it was the easiest stop of the day. If you are planning Cheonjiyeon Waterfall with kids, this covers the walk, the ticket price, what held our kids’ attention, and how long it really takes.

An easy walk, not a hike

From the ticket booth, a paved path follows the stream up the gorge to the falls. It is mostly flat and shaded by trees on both sides, and there are no stairs to speak of. On a trip where we had already climbed Seongsan Ilchulbong the day before, a walk this easy was welcome. Nobody asked to be carried, and nobody complained.

Along the way there is a small stone bridge with a dol hareubang, the carved stone grandfather figure you see all over Jeju, standing at one end. The stream runs beside the path for much of the walk, and that is where our kids spent most of their time, as it turned out.

The path in: a stone bridge, a dol hareubang statue and trees on both sides.

The waterfall

The path ends at a paved viewing area in front of the pool. The falls drop 22 meters off a dark cliff into deep green water, and on the day we went it was bright and sunny. You cannot go into the water, but the viewing area is right at the edge of the pool with railings where needed.

It was busy. There is a large stone with the name 天地淵 (Cheonjiyeon) carved into it in front of the falls, and most families, us included, wait a moment for a clear turn at the stone for the same photo. It never felt crowded enough to be a problem, but do not expect to have the place to yourself on a summer afternoon.

The viewing area gets busy on a summer afternoon.

The fish were the highlight for our kids

What held our kids’ attention longest was not the waterfall. It was the fish. The water in the stream and around the pool is clear, and you can see fish moving just under the surface. Both kids crouched at the edge and watched them for longer than they looked at the falls. For children, a live fish you can see from a few feet away beats scenery every time.

Taking a break on the path near the falls.

Photo zones and the night course

On the way back there are a few photo boards along the path. One is a large moon for the Hayeong Olle night course (하영올레 야간코스), a lit walking route that runs in the evening. The falls are open until 22:00, so an evening visit is an option if your kids can stay up. We went in daylight, so I cannot tell you what the night course is like.

The moon photo board for the Hayeong Olle night course.

How it fit our Seogwipo afternoon

Our afternoon was three short stops in a row. We rowed a wooden boat at Soesokkak a little after 1 p.m., were walking toward Cheonjiyeon by 2 p.m., and moved on to the indoor exhibits at Baksal 2 in Jungmun by about 3 p.m. Cheonjiyeon is short enough to squeeze between bigger plans, and at 1,000 to 2,000 won a ticket, it costs almost nothing.

A little background on Cheonjiyeon

The name is usually explained as “the pond where sky and land meet”: cheon means sky and ji means land. The waterfall is 22 meters high and 12 meters wide, and the pool at its base is about 20 meters deep. That pool is a protected habitat for the marbled eel (무태장어, mutae jangeo), which is Korea’s Natural Monument No. 27. We did not see an eel, but the fish in the stream kept our kids busy anyway. The warm, damp gorge also shelters subtropical plants that are protected as well.

The falls are popular at night because of the lighting. Visitors look for a rock formation nicknamed the “Hidden Face”, which only shows up when the cliff is lit after dark. With the site open until 22:00, an evening visit is realistic even with kids if they can stay up a little later than usual.

Korean words that help at the falls

폭포 (pokpo): waterfall

천지연폭포 (Cheonjiyeon pokpo): the full name you will see on signs and maps

입장료 (ipjangnyo): admission fee

매표소 (maepyoso): ticket booth

어린이 (eorini): child (ticket type)

야간 (yagan): night, as in the night course

Questions parents ask

Is Cheonjiyeon Waterfall stroller friendly?

Yes. The path is paved and mostly flat all the way to the viewing area.

How much time do we need?

Under an hour is enough for the walk in, photos at the falls and the walk back.

Tips for Cheonjiyeon Waterfall with kids

Plan under an hour: the walk is short, and you can see everything in one loop.

Look at the stream: the fish along the path are what kids remember.

Bring water and hats in summer: the path is shaded, but the viewing area is in the open.

Strollers are fine: the path is paved and flat.

Consider an evening visit: it is open until 22:00, with a lit night course.

Pair it with Soesokkak: both are on the Seogwipo side and make an easy afternoon.

Worth it?

Yes, as a short stop. It is cheap, flat, close to town and over quickly, and you get a real waterfall at the end of it. It will not fill a day, and it is not meant to. For families who want something easy between bigger outings on the south coast, it does the job well.

Aqua Planet Jeju (아쿠아플라넷 제주) is a large aquarium in Seongsan, on Jeju’s east coast, near Seongsan Ilchulbong. We went on a Wednesday in July 2026 after climbing the peak in the morning, and spent about two and a half hours inside. Both kids had asked for an aquarium before we left home. Here is what our visit to Aqua Planet Jeju looked like with two elementary-school kids: the ticket prices, the Ocean Arena show, and the two things our kids liked most.

Getting in and the first tanks

We had lunch nearby after the climb and walked in at about 1:30 p.m. The entrance corridor opens into a series of smaller tanks before you reach the big one. Our daughter stopped at a round tank with a large grouper and pointed at it. Further on there is a tank of axolotls, the pink salamanders with the permanent smile, and a pool with penguins and seals.

The entrance corridor.

There is also a Humboldt penguin stamp station, and our kids stamped their papers there. Small things like that keep kids moving from one room to the next without being told to.

The main tank and the tunnel

The main tank is a wide wall of glass with rows of seats in front of it. Sharks, rays and large schools of fish swim past, and most people sit down for a while. We did too.

Rays and sharks passing the main tank.

One of our kids’ two favorite parts was the tunnel, where you walk under glass and the fish swim over and around you. They kept stopping to look up at the fish crossing above their heads. If your kids like one thing here, it is likely to be this.

The big tank in motion.

The Ocean Arena show

We watched the show at the Ocean Arena in the middle of the afternoon. According to a May 2026 visitor guide, the show runs at 10:50, 12:50, 14:50 and 16:20, with a diving performance in the first half and dolphins and sea lions in the second. Times change by season, so check the board when you arrive and plan your walk around it. The show was a big part of why the afternoon felt like more than walking past tanks.

The whale playground

The kids’ other favorite was not an animal. It was the whale: a large whale-shaped play structure with a slide coming out of its mouth. There is also a ship-shaped structure to climb nearby. After a couple of hours of looking through glass, both kids needed to move, and the whale was where they did it.

The whale playground, with a slide coming out of its mouth.

Photo spots, art and snacks

There are photo boards around the building, including a pirate octopus that our daughter put her face through. There is also an art piece called I ♥ EARTH, made from plastic collected on Jeju’s beaches, which led to a short conversation with the kids about what ends up in the sea. Snack carts inside sell bread and drinks, so you do not have to leave to refuel.

Outside with Seongsan Ilchulbong behind

We came out a little before 4 p.m. Outside there is a wooden deck and a lawn, and Seongsan Ilchulbong is in view in the distance, the same peak we had climbed that morning. The kids climbed onto a seal statue on the deck before we went back to the car. Do not skip it if the weather is clear.

The deck outside Aqua Planet Jeju, with Seongsan Ilchulbong in the distance.

Planning a Seongsan day around it

Our day went like this: Seongsan Ilchulbong from about 11 a.m., black pork lunch at Jeonmang Heukdwaeji just after noon, then Aqua Planet Jeju through the afternoon. The climb is best done while everyone still has energy, and the aquarium is indoors for the hottest part of the day. It also works as a rainy-day plan on the east side of the island.

How big Aqua Planet Jeju is

Aqua Planet Jeju opened on July 13, 2012, and was billed at the time as the largest aquarium in Asia. According to the local news report from the opening, it holds 10,800 tons of water in total, and the main tank, called the Sea of Jeju, is 23 meters wide and 8.5 meters high and holds 6,000 tons on its own. The Ocean Arena, where the show runs, was built to seat 1,500 people. Those numbers explain why the main tank stops everyone in their tracks when they walk in.

Korean words that help at the aquarium

아쿠아플라넷 (Akwa Peullanet): Aqua Planet

오션아레나 (Osyeon Arena): Ocean Arena, the show theater

공연 (gongyeon): show or performance

공연시간 (gongyeon sigan): show times

성인 / 소인 (seongin / soin): adult / child ticket

물범 (mulbeom): seal

Questions parents ask

What time is the Aqua Planet Jeju show?

A May 2026 visitor guide listed 10:50, 12:50, 14:50 and 16:20 for the Ocean Arena. Times change by season, so check the board at the entrance.

Is it good on a rainy day?

Yes. Everything except the outdoor deck is indoors, which makes it one of the easier rainy-day plans on the east side of Jeju.

Tips for Aqua Planet Jeju with kids

Check the show times first: the Ocean Arena show runs only a few times a day.

Plan two to three hours: we spent about two and a half hours inside.

Look up in the tunnel: the fish passing overhead were a favorite.

Save energy for the whale: the playground is a good break mid-visit.

Go outside before you leave: the deck faces Seongsan Ilchulbong.

Pair it with the peak: climb in the morning, aquarium in the afternoon.

Worth the ticket?

Tickets are not cheap, at over 40,000 won per person for a family of four. What you get is a big aquarium, a proper show and a playground under one roof, near the peak most visitors come to Seongsan for anyway. Our kids got what they asked for, and for us that made it a good afternoon. Our rating: 4.5 / 5.

Segial Beach (세기알해변) is a small beach in Gimnyeong on Jeju’s northeast coast, right next to the larger Gimnyeong Beach. The water is shallow and clear a long way out, which is why we stopped there with our two kids on a Monday afternoon in July 2026. This is what we found at Segial Beach Jeju: the water, the crabs, the parasols, the beach delivery, and the one thing we would plan differently.

The water at Segial Beach: clear, shallow and calm, with an island on the horizon.

Why Segial Beach works for kids

The water is the reason to come. It stays shallow a long way from the shore, so the kids could wade out and still stand with the water around their knees or waist. On our day the sky was cloudy, but the water was still clear enough to see our feet and the pale sand underneath. The swimming area felt more like a big natural paddling pool than open sea, which made it easy to relax while the kids played.

Wading out, and still in shallow water.

The shallows go out a long way.

Behind the sand there is a row of palm trees and a line of buildings, and a long stretch of white parasols set up in rows along the beach. It was busy but never cramped. The drama Welcome to Samdalri was filmed here, according to a local travel guide, but the kids cared much more about the water than any of that.

Rows of white parasols along the sand.

Crabs in the shallows

The best part of the afternoon for our kids was catching crabs. Small crabs move around in the shallow water near the shore, and the kids spent a long time trying to catch them with their hands. It was the kind of play that needs no toys or rentals at all. If you go, a small bucket or net would make it even better.

In the knee-deep water where the crab hunting happened.

When they were not in the water, they were digging in the sand. Our daughter and son sat side by side digging holes in the sand, which leads to the one problem we had.

Sand digging near the palm trees.

Our daughter at the water’s edge.

The downside: nowhere to rinse

We could not find a place to wash the sand off before leaving. A Korean travel guide for the beach lists a basic restroom but no shower facilities, which matches what we saw. With two sandy kids, we brushed off what we could and got into the car anyway, and the sand came with us. Next time we would bring a couple of large water bottles or a portable shower in the car and rinse feet and legs before getting in.

Food delivery to the beach

One thing worth knowing: food delivery works at Segial Beach, so you can order chicken or pizza to the sand the same way you would to a house. We did not order that day, but it is a handy option if you plan to stay through a meal and do not want to pack everything up to find food.

The shoreline, with palm trees and buildings behind the beach.

How it fit our Jeju day

We came to Segial in the middle of the afternoon after a galchi lunch at Jeju Gwanghae in Aewol, and left in time to check in to our thatched-roof house in Seongeup Folk Village around 6 p.m. It worked well as a stop on the drive east. If you have a whole day, the beach could easily hold you longer than it held us.

Heading in for another swim.

More about Segial Beach

Segial Beach sits in Gimnyeong-ri, next to the better-known Gimnyeong Beach, and a Korean travel guide describes it as a quieter alternative to the busier beaches nearby. The same guide mentions snorkeling off the beach, people jumping from the breakwater, and a red lighthouse and wind turbines along the coast that make good photo backdrops. We did not snorkel, since our kids were happy in the shallows, but the clear water would suit it.

Because the beach is on the northeast coast, it pairs well with other stops on that side of the island. We came from Aewol in the west after lunch and continued east to Seongeup for the night, so it also works as a break on a long cross-island drive.

Korean words that help at the beach

해변 / 해수욕장 (haebyeon / haesuyokjang): beach / swimming beach

파라솔 (parasol): beach umbrella

샤워장 (syawojang): shower room

화장실 (hwajangsil): restroom

게 (ge): crab

배달 (baedal): delivery

Questions parents ask

Is there a shower at Segial Beach?

We could not find one, and a Korean guide to the beach lists no shower facilities. Bring water to rinse off.

Is Segial Beach good for small children?

The water stays shallow a long way out and was calm on our visit, so it suits young swimmers with an adult close by.

Tips for Segial Beach Jeju with kids

Bring rinse water: we did not find a shower, and a guide lists none.

Pack a bucket: the crabs in the shallows are the main entertainment.

Plan for sun: parasols are set up in rows along the sand if you want shade.

Food can come to you: chicken and pizza delivery reaches the beach.

Keep kids in sight: the water is calm and shallow, but it is still the sea.

Would we go back?

Yes. Of the beaches on our Jeju trip, this was the easiest one for the kids: shallow, clear, calm, and with crabs to chase. The only thing we would change is bringing our own water to rinse off. For more beaches with kids, our Jangho Beach post covers a clear-water beach on the mainland east coast.

Baksal 2: K-Island Jeju (박살2: K-아일랜드제주) is an indoor trick art and media art museum in the Jungmun Tourist Complex in Seogwipo. It opened on May 29, 2026 in the space that used to be the Jeju branch of the Museum Is Alive (박물관은 살아있다). We visited on a Thursday afternoon in July 2026 because our son had been asking to go for weeks. This is how our visit to the Jeju trick art museum went, what it costs, and what to expect if your kids know the old version.

The Jeju theme runs through the whole place.

What Baksal 2 is

The building used to house the Museum Is Alive, a trick art museum built around optical illusion paintings. In 2026 it was renovated and reopened as Baksal 2: K-Island Jeju, with the rooms rebuilt around five Jeju themes: tangerines, stone, gotjawal forest, the sea and wind. Most rooms are painted illusions you pose in front of, with a mark on the floor showing where to stand, and some have media art and interactive games.

Our son’s pick, and a small letdown

This stop was our son’s idea. He had seen the Museum Is Alive online and had been asking to go for weeks before the trip. When we got there, that version had ended and the renovated Baksal 2 had taken its place. He was disappointed at the door, because it was not the museum he had been looking forward to.

If your kids have their heart set on something they saw in an older video, check what is running now before you go. Attractions like this change their rooms, and a quick look at recent photos can save a sulk at the entrance.

The illusion rooms

Once we were inside, our daughter took over. She posed in almost every room: trapped in a glass box on Jeju stone, clinging to a rock with a painted wave breaking behind her, leaning out of pop-art frames, driving a tangerine-shaped car and standing in a giant frame full of clouds. The tangerine rooms were the ones that looked most like Jeju in the photos.

Taking these photos is work. Each room needs someone to crouch at the right angle, line up the shot and tell the child how to pose. With two kids, I was the photographer for most of the visit. You do not need a picture in every room, so pick the ones your kids like and move on from the rest.

Our son came around

Our son started slowly after the disappointment at the door, but he joined in as we went. His two best photos were in the underwater room, standing in front of a painted sea god, and in the sky room, where it looks like he is flying past an open door in the clouds.

The interactive games at the end

Near the end there are rooms where the kids play instead of pose, including a target game on a lit wall. After a string of photo rooms, letting them move around was a good way to finish.

One of the interactive rooms.

How long it takes

We were inside for a little over half an hour. Visit guides suggest about an hour, which makes sense if everyone in the family wants a photo in every room. It is not a full-day attraction. We did it as the last stop of an afternoon after rowing Soesokkak and walking to Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, and it was a good indoor finish after two outdoor stops in the sun. It would also work as a rainy-day plan in Jungmun.

More about Baksal 2

The five themed zones are tangerines, stone, gotjawal (Jeju’s lava-rock forest), the sea and the wind, and the aim is for each one to feel like a small Jeju island you walk through. Some rooms are painted illusions, some are media art, and some are objects you pose with. The same site in Jungmun also runs other activities, including Running Man and a tangerine cart, and a newer horror experience called 학교괴담 in Jeju; combined package tickets are sold for some of these. Visit Jeju also notes a 5% discount with a NOWDA card and a barrier-free route for strollers and wheelchairs.

Korean words that help

박살2 (Baksal 2): the short name everyone uses

K-아일랜드제주 (K-Aillaendeu Jeju): K-Island Jeju, the full name

박물관은 살아있다 (Bangmulgwaneun Saraitda): the old Museum Is Alive

착시 (chaksi): optical illusion

포토존 (poto jon): photo spot

입장료 (ipjangnyo): admission fee

Questions parents ask

Is Baksal 2 the same as the Museum Is Alive in Jeju?

It is in the same building in Jungmun, but the old museum was renovated and reopened as Baksal 2 in May 2026 with new rooms.

Can you book ahead?

Visit guides say both advance booking on Naver and walk-in visits are possible.

Tips for the Jeju trick art museum with kids

Check the current version: the old Museum Is Alive rooms are gone; this is Baksal 2 now.

Stand on the floor marks: the illusions only work from the marked spot.

Choose your rooms: a photo in every room wears out the photographer.

Let the kids shoot too: it takes the pressure off you.

Plan about an hour: we took a little over half an hour.

Keep it for the heat or rain: everything is indoors.

Worth it?

For a family with a child who loves posing for photos, yes. Our daughter had a great time, and we came away with a camera roll of Jeju-themed pictures. Our son enjoyed it less because he was expecting the old museum. At 19,000 won for an adult ticket for about an hour inside, it works best as a short indoor stop rather than the centerpiece of a day. Our rating: 3.8 / 5.

Snoopy Garden (스누피가든) is a Peanuts-themed garden and museum in Gujwa-eup on Jeju’s east side, with an indoor building of galleries and play zones and a large outdoor garden behind it. Our kids had been asking to go before we even left for Jeju, so we went first thing on a Tuesday morning in July 2026. This review of Snoopy Garden Jeju covers ticket prices, where it is, how long to spend there, and what our two kids actually did.

Where Snoopy Garden is

Snoopy Garden is inland in Gujwa-eup, in the northeast of the island, on Geumbaekjo-ro. You need a car or a taxi. We were staying at a thatched-roof house in Seongeup Folk Village, which was a short drive away. It is also within easy reach of the Seongsan area, so it fits well into a few days on the east side along with Seongsan Ilchulbong and Aqua Planet Jeju.

The road in, with the garden house at the end.

Inside the garden house

The indoor part, the garden house, is about 1,000 pyeong (roughly 3,300 square meters) with five themed halls, according to Visit Jeju. The galleries are white, bright and roomy, with Peanuts comic strips, framed art and glass cases of figurines.

One of the white galleries in the garden house.

Figurine cases and comic art in the galleries.

For our kids, the play zones were the highlight indoors. At the Many Faces of Snoopy wall, you build Snoopy from magnetic pieces, changing his hats and outfits. Both kids stood at that wall longer than at any of the framed art.

The Many Faces of Snoopy play zone, where you dress Snoopy with magnetic pieces.

There is also a theater with a curved screen that wraps around the room, showing a short film with Snoopy’s red doghouse. It is a good few minutes to sit down in the middle of the visit.

The curved-screen theater and Snoopy’s red doghouse.

The outdoor garden

Behind the building is the part we did not expect: a garden of about 25,000 pyeong (roughly 82,000 square meters) with eleven zones based on scenes from the comics, according to Visit Jeju. There are grassy mounds, paths between Jeju volcanic rock, a pond, a Space Traveler Snoopy by a greenhouse, a Beagle Scouts camping area, and a rope bridge leading toward small wooden cabins. The kids went from one to the next without being asked.

It was cloudy the day we went, which suited the outdoor part. On a hot, clear summer day there is not much shade on the open lawns, so bring hats and water.

The cafe, the medals and the gift shop

There is a bright cafe with big windows and a large Snoopy plush. You order at a kiosk. We had an iced coffee and a steamed bun stamped with Snoopy’s face, and the kids liked that even the food had Snoopy on it.

The cafe, with big windows onto the garden.

There are also souvenir medallion machines where you press your own Snoopy medal, and a gift shop with plush toys in every size, stationery and snacks. The gift shop is big, so decide on a budget before you walk in.

How long to spend at Snoopy Garden Jeju

We arrived just before 10 a.m. and left before noon, so a little under two hours, and we saw both the garden house and the outdoor garden. That was enough for our kids, but we moved at a steady pace. If your family likes to read every panel or sit in the cafe, plan for half a day. Going in the morning helped; the galleries were quiet when we went in.

The five halls and eleven garden zones

According to Visit Jeju, the five halls in the garden house are organized around relationships, daily life, relaxation, happiness and dreams, and the outdoor garden has eleven zones that recreate scenes from the comic strips, including Charlie Brown’s baseball field and Linus’s blanket forest. We did not see every zone in two hours, which is part of why I would give it longer next time. Pet owners should know that dogs are only allowed on Wednesdays with a pet ticket, and they need a cage or stroller indoors.

Korean words that help

스누피가든 (Seunupi Gadeun): Snoopy Garden

가든하우스 (gadeun hauseu): the garden house, the indoor building

야외정원 (yaoe jeongwon): outdoor garden

기념메달 (ginyeom medal): souvenir medal

기프트샵 (gipeuteu syap): gift shop

키오스크 (kioseukeu): self-order machine in the cafe

Questions parents ask

Is Snoopy Garden the same as “Snoopy Park” or the “Snoopy museum” in Jeju?

People search for it under all three names. The official name is Snoopy Garden, and it is both a museum-style building and a large park.

Is Snoopy Garden good on a rainy day?

The garden house works in the rain, but most of the space is the outdoor garden, so a dry day is better.

Tips for Snoopy Garden with kids

Go in the morning: the galleries were quiet when we visited around 10 a.m.

Plan two hours or more: the outdoor garden is bigger than it looks from the entrance.

Wear walking shoes: the garden paths cover a lot of ground.

Check the weather: most of the garden is outdoors, but the garden house works on a rainy day.

Set a gift shop budget: plush toys come in every size.

Worth it?

Yes, especially if your kids know Snoopy. We expected one small building and found a full garden as well. The play zones and the outdoor garden kept our kids busy, and adults who grew up with Peanuts will enjoy the galleries. It was one of the stops our kids asked for before the trip, and it lived up to it. Our rating: 4.5 / 5.

Seongsan Ilchulbong (성산일출봉), “Sunrise Peak”, is the tuff cone on Jeju’s eastern tip that rises straight out of the sea. It is part of Jeju’s UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, and the path to the top is almost all stairs. We climbed it with our two elementary-school kids on a misty Wednesday morning in July 2026. If you are planning Seongsan Ilchulbong with kids, here is what the stairs are like, how long it took us, what it costs, and how we fit it into the day.

Seongsan Ilchulbong from the parking lot, with the top hidden in cloud.

Arriving on a misty morning

We arrived just before 11 a.m. The top of the peak was hidden in cloud when we pulled into the parking lot, and it stayed misty the whole way up. The ticket booths, shops and snack stalls are all clustered at the bottom by the entrance, so you can buy water before you start. From there, the path goes up.

A cloudy day turned out to be a good day for this climb. Most of the path is in the open, with no shade, and on a hot, clear summer morning the stairs would be much harder work. If you get a grey day on Jeju, this is a good way to use it.

The stairs

The climb is a long run of wooden and stone steps, switching back along the side of the cone, with railings the whole way. Nothing about it is technical or scary. It is simply a lot of up. Visit Jeju puts the climb to the top at about 30 to 40 minutes, and with kids you will want to allow for breaks.

Heading up the stairs, with the misty coast opening up behind.

The wooden stairs.

There are benches at points along the way, and we used them. We went bench to bench, which made the climb feel like a series of short goals instead of one long one. Our kids got through it by resting when they needed to, and nobody had to be carried.

A rest on one of the benches along the way.

The crater and the view from the top

At the top there is a viewing platform over the crater. Instead of a pointy summit, you look down into a huge, shallow bowl of green grass. On one side you see the crater; on the other, the town of Seongsan and the coast. The mist moved in and out while we were there and hid some of the view.

I took a photo of my wife and the kids at the top, all three of them with their hands up. After all those stairs, it is one of our favorite photos from the trip.

Coming down and the haenyeo house

The way down faces the sea, so you get the views you missed while watching your feet on the way up. Take it slowly with tired legs; the stone steps can be slippery when it is misty. Near the bottom, the path passes above a cove with the haenyeo house, where Jeju’s women divers work. It is a good moment to tell kids about the haenyeo, who dive for shellfish without breathing gear.

The boardwalk near the bottom, with the coast behind.

Our photos run from 10:57 in the parking lot to 11:32 on the boardwalk near the bottom, so the whole loop took us under 45 minutes. With younger kids or more breaks, plan about an hour.

How we planned the rest of the day

We climbed in the late morning while everyone still had energy, then had black pork for lunch just after noon at Jeonmang Heukdwaeji, a restaurant across the water from the peak. In the afternoon we spent a couple of hours indoors at Aqua Planet Jeju, which is in the same Seongsan area. That order worked well: the climb first, food, then something indoors for the hottest part of the day. We were staying inland at a thatched house in Seongeup Folk Village, a short drive away.

A little background on the peak

Seongsan Ilchulbong is 182 meters high. It formed from an underwater volcanic eruption in shallow sea, and Wikipedia dates it to about 6,700 years ago. The crater on top is about 600 meters across. In 2007 it became part of the Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, and it is the easiest-to-reach of Jeju’s famous volcanic landmarks for families. Because it is the easternmost peak on the island, many people climb it in the dark around New Year to watch the first sunrise; in summer the gates open at 04:30.

Korean words that help

성산일출봉 (Seongsan Ilchulbong): Sunrise Peak

일출 (ilchul): sunrise

분화구 (bunhwagu): crater

계단 (gyedan): stairs

해녀 (haenyeo): Jeju’s women divers

매표소 (maepyoso): ticket booth

Questions parents ask

How many stairs are there, and is it hard for kids?

We did not count them. It is a steady staircase with railings and benches, and our elementary-school kids managed it with rests.

Can you watch the sunrise with kids?

It is possible in summer when the gates open at 04:30, but we climbed in the late morning, which is far easier with children.

Tips for Seongsan Ilchulbong with kids

Plan about an hour: our loop took under 45 minutes; allow more with younger kids.

Use the benches: going bench to bench kept our kids moving.

Wear real shoes: the steps get slick when it is misty.

Bring water: buy it at the shops by the entrance before you start.

A cloudy day is fine: it is cooler, and the crater still looks huge.

Check the first Monday: it is closed that day each month.

Pair it with Aqua Planet: the aquarium is nearby in the same area.

Worth the stairs?

Yes. It costs very little, it takes under an hour, and kids who make it up the stairs get a real sense of having earned the view. Seeing the grassy crater from the rim is different from seeing the peak from the road. If your kids can manage a long staircase with breaks, it is worth doing. Our rating: 4.5 / 5.
